| "Surgical Oncology" refers
to surgery for cancer. As board certified general surgeons, we are
trained in nearly all major organ resections for cancer.
In addition, we are aware of the options for chemotherapy and radiation
therapy and whether they should be given before or after the operation.
We work closely with medical and radiation oncologists to provide
you with optimal care.

Our surgical group has made a significant contribution to cancer
care at Highland Park Hospital, through our involvement on the cancer
committee and at the weekly tumor conferences.
We admit, there are some cases which require services that we do
not offer, and we readily refer those patients to someone whom we
feel is the local expert on the subject. However, most surgery for
cancer is well within our expertise, and can be performed safely
at Highland Park Hospital.
Much of the multidisciplinary care of these patients revolves around
chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Our oncologists are on the forefront
of clinical trials for chemotherapy, and we are the only hospital
in Lake County participating in The National Comprehensive Cancer
Network, a combined effort linking the nation's prestigious cancer
centers and teaching hospitals.
Furthermore, we work closely with the physicians at the Kellogg
Cancer Care Center on the campus of Highland Park Hospital, which
links our cancer care with that of Evanston Hospital. There is no
reason why you should not have your cancer surgery performed at
Highland Park Hospital.
